My Love: Pinterest

Ode to Pinterest:

Oh how I love thee. What would I have done without you?!? I didn't know I couldn't live without a headband holder

or a chalkboard wall.

What would I do without a hair piece board,

bottle cap magnets

diaper cake motorcycles

or marble magnets?

I find so much I have to have. It is very difficult to choose!  So many pins, so little time.

Now to decide what to do next! (bottle cap table is looking good!)

My Little Craft Queen

We went shopping at Walmart last week and I couldn't pull Erin out of the craft aisle!  She had to look at all the different "craft kits" they have. The "paint your own bird house", the box of crayons, paint, markers and stickers, the easel.  When I told her we had to go, she put her hands up and said "Mom, don't rush me!" So Grandma to the rescue, bought her a suncatcher kit.  They were all painted within 24 hours (all 12 of them!)

Bird Feeder

A while back I posted about Erin's finished craft, the bird feeder.  She had SO much fun doing this project.  We had it on the kitchen table for about a week. Every chance she would get she would sit at the table and glue more buttons on it. She had a blast!  Her new favorite thing is to do crafts!  A girl after her momma's heart! ;)  I'm so proud!

Painting a Pretty Picture

Erin loves doing crafts, coloring and other creative things.  So on Sunday, we decided to paint.  She sat there for a good 45 minutes painting. That is a long time for a two year old!

Craft Day!

My annual tradition continues: Craft Day 2009!  My sisters and Ryan's sisters came over for a full day of crafting goodness.  We make homemade gifts to give our family members in lieu of buying them things.  My aunt started this tradition 20+ years ago for my cousin and I to be able to give our parents gifts "by ourselves".  It has just continued on and become a really great tradition in our family.

Erin really got into it this year and made eight different things.  (Mostly using markers, paints and stickers!) She really seemed to enjoy herself.

Thanksgiving Decorations

I went a little crazy in the Thanksgiving Decoration department this year.  Erin and I were busy in the days leading up to Turkey Day.  We made lots of cute decorations to have for our Thanksgiving Feast.

We made a banner out of construction paper, raffia and nature items (crab apples, cinnamon sticks, bark, leaves, grass, etc.) Erin enjoyed helping Mommy pick out things from the yard.  She didn't however enjoy gluing the items to paper.  She didn't like getting glue on her hands.

Then I made little turkeys out of silk flowers. I think they turned out pretty cute.  Apparently Kramer thought they were cute too (and tasty, he ate two or three).

I also made place cards for everyone.  They are supposed to be little "Mayflower" ships.

Finger Painting!

Erin tried painting with a paint brush.  She enjoyed it....

But had WAY more fun using her fingers!

Halloween Costume

I've had to rework Erin's Halloween costume.  Initially I had covered a onesie with feathers, given that we couldn't get it over Erin's big head without her crying, I had to redo the entire body.  I've covered a large sweatshirt with the feather boas.  The back is cut and velcroed together so it will be easy to get on and off.  Her hat is done! She tolerates it long enough to get a picture of it.  To get her to wear it on Halloween I'll tell her that if she wears it people will give her candy! MMMM!

Recyclable Bowl!

I've been in a crafty mood lately and decided to give this bowl a try. It was super easy and the finished product is pretty cool. Right now I'm trying to figure out other ways to use this method for other projects. Maybe Christmas decorations/ornaments etc. We'll see what I come up with! I used about an entire magazine and a few small glue sticks.  It took about 2 hours.

Halloween Costume

Initially I had indicated that Erin would be a chicken for Halloween.  After much deliberation and deciding that you wouldn't be able to tell Erin was a girl in a chicken costume, I decided that Erin is going to be a pink flamingo instead!  I have purchased all of the supplies (pink feather boas, pink fabric, pink t-shirt, stuffing, googly eyes and pink craft foam) and have started on the most fabulous of Halloween costumes ever!

I took a long sleeved pink onesie and a short sleeved t-shirt and sewed the hems together.  Stuffed between the two shirts with stuffing.  I sewed the pink feather boas around the shirts and covered every square inch of fabric.

I cut two hood shapes out of fabric and stiched them together. It will clasp under her chin with velcro.  I cut out two half circle shapes out of pink and black craft foam for the "beak" that I will attach to the hood.  I will also add more feather boas to the hood along with some googly eyes.

I still have to cut out her "feet" out of more craft foam.  I haven't decided what color her legs should be.  Real flamingos have light pink legs but I though black might be cute too.

So what do you think? Pink legs or black?  Pink legs may look like I'm trying to match the bright pink feathers and Erin doesn't have any bright pink pants that would match that well.  Plus the pink foam I have isn't super match-y either. So she'd have lots of different shades of pink on.  But if I went with black, black is black is black and it would match and wouldn't clash with the feathers.  But black isn't the natural color of flamingos legs.
